Chef Thom’s passion for good food prepared well was instilled at an early age by his Italian grandparents.
Thom developed his love of cooking standing next to his grandfather rolling meatballs. He enjoyed helping in the kitchen during the many family gatherings for the holidays.
In High School, Chef Thom’s attention was concentrated in the Culinary Arts field. His senior year included a work study program at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, focused on working in the multiple restaurants and banquet kitchens at the hotel. This program and high recommendations from the chefs at the Hyatt brought him a scholarship to Johnson & Wales University. Chef Thom earned an Associates Degree in Culinary Arts and a Bachelors Degree in Food Service Management.
After graduating from Johnson & Wales, Chef Thom ran corporate dining establishments, chain restaurants, and his own catering business in New Jersey. Life eventually brought him to Connecticut where he opened a family style restaurant. After four years and many long hours, Chef Thom left the restaurant business to work as the General Manager of a Hotel and Conference Center. But Thom’s passion for cooking never wavered and he decided to get back into the kitchen launching his own business, Request A Chef.
Chef Thom is a National Certified ServSafe Food Manager, and is fully licensed and insured.
